Using the WPCentral app Uri schema

Whilst you’ll find most updates on the WPCentral app are now posted over at http://www.wpcentral.com, it made sense to post the Uri schema details here.

For now, there are two entry points into the app for external apps/websites to use. Expect this to expand in the future but for now, they are listed below:

Home

If you’d just like to launch WPCentral from your app for the user to experience, use the following:

wpcentral:Home

Example:

await Windows.System.Launcher.LaunchUriAsync(new System.Uri("wpcentral:Home"));

Launch article

If you’d like to link directly to an article for example to show your app’s announcement, review or demonstration, use the following uri:

wpcentral:show?Article=<the article permalink used in a normal web link>

The article parameter is derived from a typical http link such as this one: http://www.wpcentral.com/simple-calendar-v2-now-live-wp8-store, where you need to pass everything after “wpcentral.com/” as shown in the example below.

Example:

await Windows.System.Launcher.LaunchUriAsync(new System.Uri("wpcentral:show?Article=simple-calendar-v2-now-live-wp8-store"));

This could also be used if you wish to integrate the WPCentral RSS feed into your app, launching each article to be viewed within the optimum Windows Phone experience.

I will be expanding the Uri schema further to include forum links, searches and accepting the full web link into the article endpoint at a future date, and will update this post accordingly.
